Mijinyawa Barde, the National Chief Whip, Actors Guild of Nigeria, said on Tuesday that it had reduced each member’s annual levy for the health insurance scheme to N3,000 from N15,000.
Barde told the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos that the development was to ensure that its members had access to medical care when they sick.
He said: “Sickness is one thing that quickly exposes the state of a person’s ill health and poverty level to the public, especially, when such a person cannot cater for the medical bills.
“However, with the reduction in the health insurance levy, payment of medical bills will be made easy for the beneficiaries.”
Barde said the actors’ supervisory body had also put in place an insurance policy that would guarantee N1 million to any of its members that suffered any tragedy.
According to him, the Guild is in the process of giving unified identification cards to its members.
He said that such cards would contain the bio-data of the holders to ascertain their membership.
He said: “We have so many people using the Guild’s name to travel abroad to make money, while they are not our bona-fide members.”
Barde said that 2018 would signify a new phase and the rebirth of the body in the country because Emeka Rochas, the AGN’s President, recently unified factions in different states of the federation.
He stated: “This will enable the Guild to talk in one voice and achieve milestone achievements which was difficult in the past, as a result of disunity.
“This will enable the executive to make important decisions that will improve the welfare of its members and stakeholders.”
Barde lauded the new members of the executive for discharging their duties as professionals.
He added: “What the executive has started doing by unifying the different factions in different states and establishing peace is a big step toward development.”
