Abuja Master Bakers Association has urged the Standard Organisation of Nigeria, National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control and others to harmonise the levies imposed on its members.
Ishaq Abdulraheem, the Chairman of the association, decried the situation in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria on Friday.
He said the levy imposed by SON, NAFDAC and other agencies of government were becoming unbearable for the association, stressing that it was capable of running them out of business.
Abdulraheem stated that the levies were extremely high, stressing that it was not in anyway helping their business in the FCT.
According to him, different agencies on daily basis visit their bakery with different levies and it is becoming frustrating to business activities in the FCT.
He said: “I want NAFDAC and SON to sit down and look into this multiple levies to make business easy for us, it is very challenging to pay for SON, NAFDAC and others just for inspections on same products by different agencies.”
He pleaded with these agencies saddled with the responsibility of collecting levy to sit down and harmonised the differences to lift their burden.
The chairman also assured members of their determination to ensure all administrative challenges were addressed, while expressing hope that most of the challenges would be a thing of the past.
