The Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 12, M.D. Abubakar, has been appointed to succeed his boos, Hafiz Ringim, as the Inspector General of Police.
Informed sources in the Presidency told The Eagle Online that Abubakar, who is overseeing nZone 12, with headquarters in Bauchi, Bauchi State, should about now be arriving the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
It was learnt that a presidential jet has been sent to bring him to Abuja.
Sources hinted that Abubakar, who was born on May 5, 1958, was chosen after a lot of deliberation.
Abubakar, who hails from Gusau in Zamfara State, enlisted in the Force on July 30, 1979 and is due for retirement on July 30, 2014.
Presidency sources told The Eagle Online that President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday asked Ringim, who is due for retirement last year, to turn in his resignation letter.
Ringim, after the meeting with Jonathan at the Presidential Villa, refused to speak with the press.
All he offered was: “Please, please, not now. I will brief you later.”
With the appointment of Abubakar, it follows naturally that all the Deputy Inspectors General of Police in the service stand retired.
Abubakar’s full profile will be published in due course.
