Absence of IPO stalls trial of Abuja trader who allegedly beat his wife to death

The absence of an Investigating Police Officer on Thursday in an FCT High Court, Kubwa stalled the trial of a trader, Via Issac, who allegedly beat his wife to death.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the trial had to be adjourned due to the absence of ASP Victor Uzoewulu, the Investigation Police Officer.
The prosecution counsel from the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Ijeoma Ukagha, informed the court that she made efforts for the IPO to appear in court.
Ukagha further said the IPO was on special assignment in Lagos, hence his absence and prayed to the court for an adjournment.
Justice Kezziah Ogbonnaya adjourned the case until April 20 for hearing.
NAN reports that the defendant is charged with culpable homicide.
The defendant allegedly caused the death of his wife, Christiana Igbetar, by beating her with his bare hands, until she fell to the ground and died in Sakpo, Abaji, FCT on November 11, 2014.
The offence contravened Section 221(b) of the Penal Code.
