The Zamfara State Government has warned doctors and other health workers in the state to restrain from absconding from their duty posts or face sanction.
The state Commissioner for Health, Alhaji Yahya Kanoma, gave the warning in Gusau on Tuesday while receiving members of Bungudu Emirate Council’s Hospital Committee who paid him a courtesy visit.
News Agency of Nigeria reports that the committee is under the leadership of the Emir of Bungudu, Alhaji Hassan Attahiru.
Kanoma expressed dismay with the attitude of some health workers in the state who absconded from their duty stations, leaving patients in severe conditions.
“Any doctor or health worker in the state found absconding from his working place will be dealt with accordingly.
“The Ministry of Health will deal decisively with any staff found wanting in the discharge of their duties,” he said.
According to Kanoma, the state Ministry of Health would collaborate with Hospital’s Committees of the 17 emirates councils in state with a view to improving health care delivery services.
“The state Ministry of Health will soon implement some policies to bring sanity to the state government’s owned hospitals.
“This is in line with the state government’s policies under Governor Bello Matawalle led administration in the state,” he said.
Earlier, the Emir of Bungudu, Alhaji Hassan Attahiru said that they were in the Commissioner’s office to congratulate him on his new appointment and to advocate for the revival of the state government’s health facilities.
The monarch expressed optimism on the ability of the Commissioner and the entire staff of the Ministry to improve the health sector of the state.
