The Abia House of Assembly on Tuesday confirmed the nomination of chairmen and their deputies of transition committees for the 17 local council areas in the state.
The list of the nominees was earlier sent to the assembly by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu.
The nominees, who were presented for screening on Tuesday at the plenary presided over by the Speaker, Chinedum Orji, were confirmed after a voice vote by the legislators.
News Agency of Nigeria reports that the assembly had during the Monday plenary set up an ad-hoc commitee to screen the nominees.
Munachim Alozie, Chairman of the ad-hoc commitee, while giving the report at the Tuesday plenary, recommended that assembly should confirm the nominees, having painstakingly screened them.
The Majority Leader, Solomon Akpulonu, warned the chairmen-designate against reckless spending of public fund, saying they should get the authority of the assembly for whatever fund to be spent.
He said: “We must assist this government to move forward.”
The Speaker advised them to make priorities for payment of salaries of local government employees, pension and funding of the Abia State Universal Basic Education Board.
