Kwara State governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, on Friday swore Salman Jawondo in as the state’s Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice with a charge on him and other public officers to keep to their oaths of office.
“Your re-appointment is a further call to duty in serving the people of the state. You should continue to keep to the oath of office. I congratulate you and wish you all the best”, AbdulRazaq said at the brief swearing-in ceremony held at the Presidential Lodge in Ilorin.
Jawondo, on his part, applauded the governor for the re-appointment and his giant strides across sectors, and promised to justify the confidence reposed in him.
He said, “On behalf of myself and the larger Jawondo clan, I express my profound appreciation to His Excellency for the honour done to me once again,” he said.
“This opportunity is a challenge for me to assist His Excellency by redoubling my efforts in his drive to change the narrative of the state and ensure development.”
According to a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, the swearing-in was attended by the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Suleiman Durosinlohun; the Grand Kadi, Mohammed AbdulKadir, and the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Mamman Saba Jubril.
Others were the Head of Service, Mrs Modupe Susan Oluwole; Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice, Mrs Idris Musa; and Permanent Secretary (Cabinet, Political), Mrs Kikelomo Grillo.
Meanwhile, the governor has commended the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) for suspending the nationwide protest earlier planned for June 12, calling the step “very patriotic and thoughtful”.
He said the decision of the students was laudable as it had taken the sail off the winds of any fifth columnists who may want to hijack the peaceful protest for their own agenda.
AbdulRazaq made the commendation when he received a delegation of the state chapter of the students’ body who presented an award to him in honour of his commitments to public good and human capital and infrastructural development.
The students were led by their incumbent chairman, Saleeman Yusuf Issa, and his predecessor, Salami Wasiu.
