The Inspector-General of Police, Alkali Baba Usman, says he has been following what is happening in Kaduna, particularly Zaria, with keen interest; and that he is currently working on beefing up security in the areas and the state in general to ensure law and order.
There has been rash of kidnap and banditry activities in the state lately.
The IGP made the remarks when he paid a courtesy call on the emir of Zazzau, Malam Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, at his palace in Zaria as part of his nationwide tour to police formations in the country.
IGP Baba assured the emir of his commitment to improving security in the state and the emirate in particular, saying that he spent 14 years serving in Kaduna State.
“This visit is part of my assessment tour to assess security situation with a view to adding value. We have shifted our attention to Kaduna and Zaria in particular and we are making efforts to ensure law and order by making people to go about their businesses,” he said.
He solicited the support and cooperation of traditional institutions to achieve the desired result.
“We will support whatever information, strategy and intelligence gathering to rid our society of crimes,” he added.
In his response, the emir applauded the performance of the police personnel in combating crimes in the emirate, but urged the Inspector-General to deploy additional personnel to enhance capacity.
Bamalli also called for the provision of Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC), saying the only one provided in the emirate had been vandalised by bandits.
