Former Governor of Plateau State, Jonah David Jang, has been accused of defrauding journalists in the state through the non-payment of outstanding advertisement bills worth of millions of naira.
Jang authorised the unpaid for advertisements.
The debts were from 2012 till 2015.
Disturbed by this development, the Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria union of Journalists, Plateau State chapter, Aminu Yusuf Idegu, expressed disappointment.
Idegu said in a statement: “It is even more worrisome that Jang did not reflect same in his handing-over notes to the new administration in Government House.
“That some of the debts owed to the media organizations through the state correspondents dated back to as far back as 2012.
“The affected media outfits include: The Nation,Tribune, Blueprint, Daily Independent, Leadership, Thisday, National Mirror, Daily Newswatch, and the Vanguard.”
This, according to Idegu, showed Jang as an “insensitive ingrate” to the journalists who worked with him.
He described Jang as callous, wicked and inhuman.
Idegu appealed to the new government of Hon. Simon Lalong to toe a new course and entrench a tradition of having such advertorials emanating from the government pre-paid so as to maintain a healthy working relationship with the various media organisations.
