Enugu State-based Catholic priest and founder of Adoration Ground, Father Ejike Mbaka, has accused President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Dame Patience Jonathan, of a plot to assassinate him.
Mbaka, who has been critical of Jonathan and his wife, said this during a sermon, which date was not specified.
He said he found it difficult to understand why Jonathan and Patience were after his life, adding: “After all, I supported them for six years.”
He told the congregation that if the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, General Muhammadu Buhari, was not after his life while he backed the Jonathans, he does not see any reason why the President should resort to such an action.
Mbaka said: “Let it now be known to the whole world that President Goodluck Jonathan and Patience are planning to assassinate Father Mbaka.
“It is a known secret.
“So however they are planning it, I don’t know.
“Whomever they want to use, I don’t know.
“They will not come themselves and do it.
“They will not do it by themselves.
“They will use these unemployed people, the same people I am speaking for.”
Father Mbaka said he should be taken seriously on the issue.
Mbaka and the Jonathans had been at loggerheads since the priest announced publicly that Jonathan should not seek reelection.
He said Jonathan had performed below par and should allow another person take a shot at the presidency.
The video, which is 21 minutes 45 seconds, also saw Mbaka denying ever collecting any money from the Jonathans.
He said he rejected the money he was offered by Dame Jonathan through the Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu.
Mbaka said: “The money they are boasting they gave to Father Mbaka, I have severally here on this alter put my hands to tell the whole world that it is true, if it is true because Ekweremadu, the Deputy Senate President, came with one little… will I call it a bag or purse, I don’t know, containing some money he said ‘Mrs. President gave to you’.
“And the money was rejected.
“And it is in Ekweremadu’s house.
“That I am not holding one kobo of Patience Goodluck’s money.
“As heaven lives, if she tries any nonsense, the battle will be between Goodluck and God Himself.”
