Governorship election, Ebonyi Widows have declared fasting and prayer to seek God’s blessing towards the re-election Governor David Umahi.
The widows also, in conjunction with the State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria, the Muslim community and market women have contributed money to assist in funding the re-election of the Governor.
The State Coordinator of Widows in the State, Magistrate Stella Ogoke disclosed this on Friday at the Akanu Ibiam International Conference Centre, Abakaliki during a townhall meeting with the Governor.
Briefing the governor on their preparedness towards next week’s guber polls, Ogoke noted that the over 2000 widows who have been empowered by the Governor have been indoors seeking the face of God for the Governor’s success at the polls.
She added that the widows on their own decided to contribute money individually and collectively towards the election of the governor whom they described as “husband to the widows”.
Ogoke said: “On our own, we have contributed some money to give towards your re- election, Your Excellency.
“We decided that we are going to give you the money to buy cow and other things you will use to receive visitors who will be coming to congratulate you on your reelection after March 9th Governorship election.”
The State Chairman of CAN, Rev Fr. Abraham Nwali, in his presentation, said the church in the state have adopted the Governor for the second term because he has delivered on all his campaign promises.
Nwali assured that the church will always stand by the Governor for having identified with them as a Child of God.
Nwali added: “Since you are not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ, the church will not be ashamed to stand with you.
“We have made personal contributions toward your election because we know you are a child of God.
“CAN made it clear even at the National level that we are standing with you fully because we want a man of God like you to continue to be the Governor of Ebonyi State.”
Speaking on behalf of the market Women in the state, their leader, Rose Akochi, disclosed that the women have also made various contributions towards the Governor’s re-election.
She emphasized that Governor Umahi’s commitment to the economic viability of the state has benefitted them immensely, assuring that they would not relent in according him their total solidarity.
She further noted that beyond financial contributions by all the market women, they have also mobilized themselves to vote and protect their votes, stressing that no force can be superior to that of God who, according to her has ordained the re-election of the governor.
On his part, the leader of the Muslim Community in the state, Alhaji Lukman Alkali, said the entire Muslim community decided to fund the re-election of the governor because he has developed all sectors of the state economy simultaneously and has united all segments of the state under one indivisible entity.
Alkali said Ebonyi State has remained peaceful with all ethnic nationalities living in peace irrespective of political affiliation and attributed such to the all-inclusive leadership style of the Governor.
He emphasized that all members of the Muslim community in the state have been mobilized to vote massively for Governor Umahi in the next week Governorship election in the state based on merit.
Governor Umahi, while reacting to the assurances, promised to continue to pilot the affairs of the state with greater fear of God in the next four years of his second tenure.
He commended all the groups for their solidarity assuring them that he would religiously keep and fulfill all the promises he made during his electioneering campaigns.
According to him, Ebonyi State would continue to witness geometric transformation under him, in line with the vision of the founding fathers.
