Barely a week to the kickoff of the general elections, the First Lady, Hajia Aisha Buhari, has finally realigned her interest in the Adamawa State governorship in favour of the incumbent, Senator Muhammad Umaru Jibrilla Bindow.
Hajia Buhari, who Hails from Adamawa State, had unsuccessfully pushed for her younger brother, Mohammed Halilu Modi, to run in place of the incumbent.
Reliable sources confirmed on Saturday night that the woman, who had strongly backed moves to unseat Bindow before and after the All Progressives Congress primaries in Adamawa State, has backtracked from supporting her sibling.
The first sign of the First Lady caving in emerged during the stopover of the Muhammadu Buhari re-election campaign train to Yola on February 7, 2019.
Former Ambassador Buba Marwa, who represented Hajia Buhari at the occasion, had said: “Bindow and Modi are the same.”
This was largely interpreted to mean the APC is one united family.
Marwa urged the people of the state to vote for Buhari and Bindow.
Marwa said: “I’m representing the wife of the President, Aisha Buhari, and she asked me to tell you to vote for APC.
“I can’t count what Buhari has done in the country and the state.
“You all know that Buhari is a corruption-free man, fighting for the interest of the common man.
“I urge you all to vote for Buhari from top to bottom and bottom to top.”
Before now, the tussle over who leads Adamawa State to 2019 had some of the APC bigwigs of like Babachir David Lawal, Marcus Gunduri, Bello Tukur, Buba Marwa and Sadiq Kalu lining up behind Modi who failed to secure the APC gubernatorial ticket.
