No fewer than 92 players reported on the first day at Rangers’ Permanent Camp pitch for the ongoing screening for the club’s Team B, an official said on Thursday.
Rangers’ Media Director, Foster Chime, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Enugu that the stand of the pitch was filled with the would-be players and some technical crew on Wednesday.
Chime said that the players were of all ages but, however, noted that there appeared to be more players between ages 16 and 21.
He said that due to the number of the players to be tested and given equal opportunities, the technical crew had to cancel the break-time for the exercise.
Chime said: “In order to give everyone a fair representation, Rangers technical crew had to forgo the break time which is part of the programme.
“It ended two hours late by 6pm instead of the 4pm closing time for the exercise as scheduled.’’
According to him, the Head Coach of Rangers Team B, Ndubuisi Ajomiwe, is impressed with the level of commitment displayed by the would-be players.
Chime said: “Ajomiwe was quite impressed with the hunger to play exhibited by those that reported notwithstanding the long-time and stress he underwent yesterday.
“However, the coach has other qualities the club had given him to watch out for in the would-be players.”
NAN reports that Rangers Team B would act as a reserve for the club to meet its demand for players.
The Team B will also play state FA Cup, engage in other zonal and national football competitions to give relief to the players in the main team.
Rangers will represent Nigeria at the Confederation of African Football Champions League and defend its title in the Nigeria Professional Football League.
The club will also participate in the Federation Cup within the 2016/2017 football season.
