Following report on the seizure of $9.3 million by the South African Authorities, Senate on Thursday summoned the National Security Adviser (NSA) Colonel Sambo Dasuki (rtd), Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshall Alex Badeh and Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Kenneth Minimah.
It will be recalled that on Monday, South African Police caught two Nigerians and an Israeli with $9.3 million cash, allegedly meant for arms transaction.
However, Chairman, Senate Committee on Defence, Senator Gorge Sekiobo while speaking on the issue revealed that he has contacted the National Security Adviser, Chief of Defense Staff, and Chief of Army Staff to appear before its Committee on Defence by next week Tuesday to brief lawmakers on the alleged smuggled of $9.3 million.
His words, “I have just called the Chief of Defence Staff, National Security Adviser and Chief of Army Staff, I don’t want to preempt issues because have not heard details about it but they will be here on Tuesday next week.”
On Mutiny, the Chairman said it is not a surprise that death sentence was passed on the 12 soldiers because before they joined soldiers, they were aware of the implication of mutiny adding that before the judgment was passed the army has carried out their investigation on the matter
According to him, it is not a surprise that the death was passed on the 12 soldiers before they are aware that anybody that committed mutiny is going to be killed.
He added that soldiers are trained to kill, therefore killing is not a big deal to them.
