On July 19, 2019 at about 1:30pm, Ilasan Police Station in Lagos State received a call that a group of hoodlums, suspected to be armed robbers/cultists, were sighted behind Angle 90 bar in Ilasan, Lekki.
A team of policemen was quickly mobilized to the scene.
The leader of the gang, Ibrahim Abu, 32, and four others, namely: Samuel Usai, John Nwaru, Emmanuel Moro and Michael Daniel, were arrested.
On searching the suspects, one locally made pistol with 10 unexpended cartridges were recovered.
The spokesman of the Lagos State Police Command, Bala Elkana, said investigation is ongoing and that the suspects will be charged to court.
Elkana also said on July 17, 2019 at about 8:30am, acting on credible intelligence, Operatives of Operation Crush raided some criminal hideouts within Akerele area of Agege.
He said 34 people suspected to be members of the dreaded cult, Awawa Boys, who have been terrorising the area were arrested, while seven bags of weeds, suspected to be Indian hemp, were recovered.
The suspects have been handed over to the Lagos State Task Force in Oshodi for prosecution.
In a related development, 38 other cult members were arrested on July 16, 2019 at about 9:30am.
This followed a clash by youths from Idiroko, Adeola and Ajose areas of Owutu area in Ikorodu.
They engaged themselves in a supremacy fight at Idiroko area, Owutu, Ikorodu.
In the process, the youths attacked passersby and damaged some vehicles within the area.
However, combined teams of policemen mobilized to the scene successfully brought the situation under control and restored normalcy to the area.
Thirty-eight suspects were arrested and taken to the Task Force at Oshodi for prosecution.
The leader of the Aiye confraternity in Bariga area of the state, Alayakin Azeez Olawale, has also been arrested.
Olawale, 32, was arrested on July 20, 2019 at about 9:45pm by operatives of Bariga Police Station at Egbenrogde Street.
The suspect was identified as the leader of a group of Aiye confraternity members that had earlier in the day attempted to cause a breach of peace within Bariga town.
Elkana said investigation in ongoing and the suspect will be charged to Court.
