Former Nigerian international, Obafemi Martins, has been nominated for the annual Seattle Sounders Sports Star of the Year award.
The pint-sized striker would battle American star Clint Dempsey, Earl Thomas (Seahawks), Shaq Thompson (Husky Football), Kyle Seager (Mariners) and Connor Halliday (Cougar Football) for the award.
Martins, who lost the Major Soccer League Player of the Year to Robbie Keane, would take solace in winning the Seattle Sports Star of the Year award.
The former Newcastle of England forward banged in a total of 17 goals and 13 assists between March and October, while his rival Dempsey has only scored 15 goals this season.
The winner would be decided by a mix of fan voting and select media recognition, as the annual sports celebration recognizes soccer’s popularity in the Pacific Northwest.
Meanwhile, online voting continues in the new year while the winner will be unveiled on January 21, 2015.
