The Department of Petroleum Resources said that about 70 per cent compliance had been recorded in Abuja to the Federal Government’s directive on petroleum pump price reduction to N87 per litre.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, on Sunday announced a slash in the pump price of petrol from N97 to N87 per litre.
The DPR spokesman, Mohammed Saidu, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Abujaon Monday that the agency would ensure full compliance to the directive.
Saidu said the agency on Monday deployed surveillance teams, led by the Director of DPR, George Osahon, to ensure that the directive was not flouted.
He said: “The Director of DPR, Mr. George Osahon, and other management staff, were on the field today in Abuja to enforce strict compliance with the directive by the Petroleum Minister on the reduction.
“We are happy with the level of compliance and the success recorded so far.”
Saidu said about 70 per cent of the filling stations visited had changed the meters to reflect the new pump price as announced by the Federal Government.
According to him, the few that are yet to comply said their engineers were not around to effect the changes.
While calling on owners of filling stations to comply with the directive immediately, he warned that the agency would severely punish any station that refused to comply by the close of work on Tuesday.
All the filling stations visited by NAN in the FCT had complied with the new price regime.
Some of the stations visited included the Conoil filling station and its Total counterpart opposite the NNPC Towers.
A fuel attendant, David Idoko, told NAN that customers who bought the product expressed joy over the new price.
Idoko said: “Our manager is not around.
“The pump price was adjusted even before we started business for the day.”
