A 43-year-old man, Promise Ezeonwuka, Tuesday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing items worth N870,000.
Promise, is facing a three-count charge of stealing and inflicting injury on his victim with a broken bottle.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Insp. Funmi Akinleye, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on December 7, at 11:00 p.m.
Akinleye said that the defendant and three others assaulted one Basil Odinaka, by hitting his head with a broken bottle, causing him bodily harm.
She told the court that the defendant conspired with three others still at large, to steal the sum of N350,000 cash.
According to Akinleye, other items stolen are Infinix Hot 5 and a Nokia phone valued N150,000, an HP Laptop worth N180,000, LG television valued N120,000 and hospital bill treatment receipt valued at N70,000.
She said that the alleged offences contravened section 171, punishable under section 173, and section 280, punishable under section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria 2015.
The Magistrate, T.A. Oladele, granted the defendant N100, 000 bail with two sureties in like sum and with verified residential addresses.
Oladele said that the sureties must be gainfully employed and have evidence of two years’ tax payment to Lagos State Government.
The Magistrate after adjourned the case until April 19, for mention.
