A 42-year-old driver, Amos Ekueme, was on Friday arraigned in an Abeokuta Chief Magistrates’ Court, Isabo, Ogun State for allegedly defrauding one Nosiru Ali of over N7.5 million.
The driver, with no fixed address, is facing a two-count charge of fraudulently obtaining under false pretence and stealing.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the offences levelled against him.
The prosecutor, Inspector Lawrence Olu-Balogun, told the court the defendant committed the offences on September 24, 2024 at Ali Farm, Ogunmakin Town, via Owode Egbe area of Ogun State.
Olu-Balogun said the defendant fraudulently obtained the sum of N7.5 million from the complainant with the intent to steal.

According to him, the complainant gave the defendant N7.5 million to transport 2,000 bags of Calcium Carbonate (white cement) from Nigeria to Ghana.
He said: “Ekueme, who claims to be a driver and also works with a transport and logistics company, obtained the sum of N7.5 million to transport the goods, which he did not deliver to its destination.
“He did not deliver the goods to Ghana and as well did not return the goods or money he collected from the complainant.”
Olu-Balogun added the defendant stole the 2,000 bags of the white cement valued at N7.2 million.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 516, 419, and 390 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State, 2006.
Subsequently, the Chief Magistrate, B. O. Ilo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million with one surety in like sum.
Ilo, thereafter, adjourned the case till February 14 for hearing.
