No fewer than 40 persons going for a funeral service in Edo State have plunged into a river, with 33 of them feared dead.
The accident occurred at J4 area at the Ogbere axis of the Benin-Sagamu Expressway.
However, a pregnant woman and two others were said to have survived the accident.
The pregnant woman was said to have been found hanging on a tree.
The bus in which they were travelling was reported to be going from Lagos to Benin, the Edo State capital, where they were to attend a burial ceremony.
The bus veered off the road and plunged into the river at Kilometre 56, Benin-Sagamu Expressway.
The Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State Unit Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission, Seidu Osilama, confirmed the accident.
Osilama, however, could not confirm the number of passengers in the vehicle.
As at 7pm, efforts were still being made to retrieve the vehicle from the river by officials of the FRSC and the state traffic agency.
