An Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, on Wednesday remanded a 38-year-old man, John Obene, in prison for allegedly defiling a 10-year-old girl.
The Magistrate, E. Kubeinje, remanded Obene in Ikoyi Prison pending advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the defendant plea was not taken by the court.
Kubeinje, thereafter, adjourned the case until March 30, for mention.
Obene, of no fixed address, is facing a two-count charge of defilement and assault occasioning harm.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Lucky Ihiehie, told the court that Obene, had on February 16, at about noon, at Oyero Balogun Street, Ketu, Lagos, allegedly had unlawful carnal knowledge of a 10-year–old girl, without her consent.
He said the defendant in a bid to hurriedly perpetuate his act assaulted the girl by using his finger on her private part which led to injury.
Ihiehie said: “Obene allegedly waylaid the girl and took her to a corner and defiled her and the girl later alerted her mother.”
He said that the case was reported at Ketu Police Station and it was later transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department.
The offences contravened Sections 137 and 173 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
