A 37-year-old trader, Ibrahim Usman, who allegedly raped and impregnated a 13-year-old girl, was on Wednesday remanded in Kirikiri Prisons on the order of an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State.
Chief Magistrate Tajudeen Elias, who gave the order, said the accused should be kept behind bars until the next date of adjournment.
The accused, who lives at Ibikule Oyebanjo Street in Ipaja, a Lagos suburb, is facing a charge of rape.
According to Prosecutor Raphael Donny, the accused committed the offence sometime in February at his residence.
Donny said the accused raped the girl and also impregnated her.
“The reality dawn on the victim when she missed her menstruation and she then confessed to her mother that she was raped by the accused,” Sergeant Donny told the court.
The offence contravenes Section 259 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Section 259 provides life imprisonment for offenders.
The case was adjourned to July 13 for hearing.
