Fresh mayhem has befallen the Tiv communities in Nasarawa State again as suspected Fulani marauders attacked Chabo community in Obi Local Government Area and Hagher in Lafia East LGA.
Fresh facts had it that the casualty figure is on the increase following the mayhem on the Tiv communities on Saturday.
Report says no fewer than 36 persons have so far been counted dead in the attack on Chabo, Hagher and Daa Jukun.
It was gathered that the attackers in their large number stormed Chado at about 11am on Saturday, killing over seven persons, while others fled with gunshot injuries.
Eyewitnesses had it that the shooting spread over to Hagher, where one person was again gunned down.
Reasons for the attack was sketchy as at the time of this report, but villagers said it might be connected with the death of a Fulani along Chabo Road, leading to another adjoining village.
Information reaching us indicated that the police arrived scene hours after the villagers had fled, even as Soldiers who were dispatched to the place were allegedly asked by the police to return, claiming they were on top of the situation and that no one was killed.
The people however appeared so devastated and traumatised and are currently taking refuge in the nearby villages.
They are appointing fingers in the direction of the police in the area for the role played from the beginning of the attacks.
The people are afraid Ayaakeke village in Jangwa could be the next target.
One of the villagers, who spoke with our correspondent in a telephone conversation, said: “Why on earth would such a huge number of Tiv people be killed to avenge the death of one person?
“Why moving towards Ayaakeke for something that happened as far as Chabo in Obi?”
The people have appealed to the State Governor, Engr. A. A Sule, to swiftly intervene to avoid the attack from resulting to a full scale crisis.
