The Nigeria Wrestling Federation on Monday said that 32 wrestlers had resumed in camp ahead of the forthcoming Commonwealth Games.
Damian Ohaike, the Technical Director of NWF, told the News Agency of Nigeria on telephone that wrestlers in camp included national champions.
NAN reports that this is the first phase of camping ahead of the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
NAN also reports that the female wrestlers are camping in Yenagoa while their male counterparts are camping in Port Harcourt.
The first phase of the camping, which began on Friday would end on February 12, while the second phase would commence immediately after.
The Commonwealth Games will hold on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, from April 4 to 15.
Ohaike said Nigeria will partake in freestyle and female wrestling at the games.
He said: “We are looking at 32 athletes, both male and female, for the Commonwealth event.”
Ohaike also said that the camping was part of the preparations for the African Championships to be hosted by Nigeria in February in Port Harcourt.
The African Championship involves the Cadet, Junior and Senior categories.
He added: “We are going to present wrestlers in all the 90 weight categories in the Greco-Roman, freestyle and female wrestling.”
