Over 30,000 Micro, Small and Medium Scale Enterprises, including artisans, in Kwara State have benefitted from the state government’s N250 million revolving credit scheme.
The state Governor, Dr. Abdulfatah Ahmed, announced this during the inauguration of the Kwara State Artisan Congress, an umbrella body for all artisans in the state.
Ahmed said another tranche of N100 million would be disbursed in the next few weeks and members of the artisan congress would be part of the beneficiaries.
“The forthcoming N100 million intervention is part of our continuing efforts to boost the informal sector through entrepreneurship promotion, capacity building through training and the provision of affordable credit,” he said.
The governor, who described artisans as major players in economic development, said the group should maximize its restructuring to the benefit of members by taking advantage of the numerous opportunities created by his administration.
Ahmed reiterated that as a labour friendly government, his administration was one of the first in the country to implement the national minimum wage while workers’ salaries, promotions and other incentives, including trainings, have been regular.
The President of the Association, Alhaji Abdullahi Lanky, commended the state government for promoting the wellbeing of artisans in the state.
He described the formation of the association as a challenge for members to strive for excellence.
