For raping a four-year-old girl, a Chief Magistrate Court II in Tunga, Minna, Niger State has sentenced a 26-year-old man, Salisu Umar, to 10 years imprisonment without an option of fine.
Salisu was arraigned before the court for a one-count charge of raping a minor.
According to the First Information Report, on January 8, 2014 at about 10:30am, one Ayuba Tanimu of Abdulsalam Quaters reported at the Maitumbi Police Station that Umar, 26, of Peter Sarki Road, Minna, went to their area and took his daughter (names withheld), aged four, to an uncompleted building and had sexual intercourse with her without her consent and as a result she sustained serious injuries in her private part.
The offence, according to the FIR read by the prosecutor, Inspector Ahmed Sa’idu, is contrary to Section 18 of the Child’s Right Law of Niger State, which allowed the Magistrate to try the case.
When the charge was read to him, the convict, Salisu, pleaded guilty with remorse.
After listening to the charge and confession by the accused, the Chief Magistrate, Barrister Abdullahi Usman, sentenced him to 10 years imprisonment without an option of fine and to pay compensation of N50,000.
