The Ebonyi State Government has congratulated a native of Afikpo area of the state, Engr. Eni Oko, for winning the 2024 edition of the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Prize for Science.
The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Engr. Jude Okpor, revealed that the government expressed pride over the development.
The statement, on Sunday, described Oko’s achievement as a true reflection of the inherent diligent and innovative spirit of Ebonyi people, exhibited in every sphere of positive human endeavour.
Part of the statement reads: “We are very proud of this great achievement of his, which has once again brought Ebonyi State to global limelight as the nave of superlative intelligence in Nigeria.
“By clinching this prize, Oko has made not only Ebonyi State proud but the entire Nigerian nation and the African continent.”
Okpor noted that the prize was a well deserved one going by Oko’s splendid academic track record, which earned him his present position as an associate professor and senior lecturer in Chemical Engineering at the Newcastle University, United Kingdom.

The statement further expressed optimism that with the many educational policies of Governor Francis Nwifuru, many Ebonyi young people are being positioned for greater academic laurels in future.
The statement said: “We are optimistic that going by the very strong foundation and capacity enhancing educational programmes and policies of our dear Governor, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, these uncommon feats by Ebonyi people will continue to not only be sustained but steadily improved upon in both dimension and variation.
“Governor Nwifuru, in less than two years, has made unprecedented investment in human capital development.
“He has not only increased funding and budgetary provision for the education sector beyond the globally prescribed threshold but has offered scholarships to over 1000 young Ebonyians at present to study for their masters and doctorate degrees in renowned local and foreign universities, mainly in different fields of Science and technology.”
