As consultation intensifies, Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has led a team of other governors and lawmakers to the uphill mansion of General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida in Minna, Niger state.
During the visit, the delegation held a closed door meeting with General Abubakar Abdulsalami who then followed them to Babangida’s house where the closed door meeting continued for about 20 minutes.
When asked why the visit, Wike pointed towards and asked the Abia state Governor to speak.
While speaking on behalf of his Colleagues, the Abia state Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu said that they were in Minna to consult with the two elder statesmen and to discuss pressing national issues.
According to him “I have come with my colleagues, the Governors of Enugu, Oyo, River and some members of the National Assembly (NASS) to consult with the former Head of State and President and discuss national issues and the problems affecting our country.
“We commended him for his support for the unity of this country and the discussions went very well and we will take it from there.”
When asked about the response of Babangida to their visit, Ikpeazu said that the former military President expressed concern and expressed his expectation for the younger generation to take up the baton of leadership and rescue Nigeria.
On the 2023 presidential ambition of Governor Wike, the Governors stated that it would be discussed later.
In the delegation were Wike’s counterparts: Abia state, Okezie Ikpeazu, Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Oyo state, Abiodun Makinde and former Benue state Governor, Gabriel Suswam.
