The National Leader of All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has revealed what he told President Muhammadu Buhari when he went to the Presidential Villa, popularly called Aso Rock, to declare his intention to contest the 2023 presidential election.
Tinubu revealed this on Saturday at the Palace of the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo.
The former two-term Governor of Lagos State was in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, to tell Oba Gbadebo of his intention to run for the presidency and seek his blessing.
This was after he had earlier in the day paid the same type of courtesy call on the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona.
He was accompanied by Prof. Tunde Samuel; Chief Kemi Nelson; former Lagos State Deputy Governor, Femi Pedro; James Odunbaku; Dr. Kola Kasali; Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe; Senator Gbenga Obadara; and Senator Anthony Adefuye.
Tinubu, who arrived at the palace of the Alake at 4:35pm, went straight into a private meeting with the monarch.
He said: “I told the President I want to replace you and I don’t want to offend you.
“I told the President that I want to step in his shoes but not step on his toes.
“I told him as the number one citizen, I should start my presidential bid by informing you first, and he (Buhari) told me to inform the whole world, and I have done that.”
