The Chairman, South East Governors Forum and Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi, has opened up on his expectations for the 2023 general election in the country
The Governor spoke while responding to questions from journalists shortly after casting his votes in the State Council poll at the Onuofukuru Polling Unit in his Egugwu-Umunaga, Uburu home in Ohaozara Local Government Area on Saturday.
Umahi said he was expecting nothing but the miracle of God.
Recall that Umahi has been tipped from various quarters for the Presidency of Igbo extraction come 2023, to which he has not made any open declaration
According to the Governor, the thrust of his political career and achievements have been his absolute confidence in God and passion for the people, which has continued to drive his dreams and aspirations.
Maintaining that his giant developmental strides in the State were also manifestations of God’s Miracle, Umahi assured that come 2023, his expectations would not be cut off.
Umahi said: “Everything in the State is a miracle of God; it’s God’s grace and miracle.
“A number of things that happen, I wake up to see them happening.
“What I know is that I have 100 per cent confidence in God.
“The way we came into office is not something you will joke with God.
“Leadership is not all about EFCC or the way people are praising you or cursing you.
“It’s about fear of God; it’s about passion for the people.
“The passion drives God’s vision and mission.
“If God is piloting your Affairs, you have to put your eyes and mind on God.
“Every leader that puts his trust in God, and if your mission is not going to steal public fund, may be, the expectations of the righteous will not be cut off.
“So, I am expecting God’s miracle in 2023.”
Umahi, who further asserted that all the South East Governors were doing well, observed that each of the State has its own priorities.
He noted that Ebonyi State suffered dearth of infrastructural and human empowerment due to many past years of neglect, noting that the scenario informed his prioritising revolution in the sectors.
The Governor explained that no fewer than 10 political parties participated in the Council election in the State, but noted that the Peoples Democratic party held sway owing to evidences on ground.
The election in the State generally witnessed average turn out of electorates in the polling units visited across the 13 Council areas, with most people observing COVID-19 preventive measures.
