The Governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party in Ebonyi, Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii, has called on the ruling All Progressives Congress APC to allow the people’s will prevail in the State.
Odii, popularly known as Anyichuks, made the plea shortly after casting his vote at the Isuachara polling unit 025, Amanato ward in Isu, Onicha local government area of the State. He voted at 11 am Saturday.
Odii, who commended INEC’s improvement from the previous election, said material and personnel arrived timely.
He warned the ruling APC government in the State to eschew violence and allow the people’s will prevail.
Odii said: “So far in some areas, I can say the votings are going on very well. But in some areas we are hearing pockets of violence, most especially from the All Progressives Congress government, but the security agencies are working hard to contain it.
“But most importantly, they should allow this election go on according to rules.
“Let nobody think we are going to allow them rig the elections.
“Even if anyone thinks he is going to forge results, when you finish writing it, that result will not go.
“They should allow the people decide who they want to vote for.”
The PDP candidate expressed optimism that he would eventually carry the day in Ebonyi if the election is allowed to run smoothly.
“I have worked for the people, and I believe the people will support me, the quest for a new Ebonyi.”
Meanwhile, there seemed to be general voter aparthy across the State.
In most polling units visited, there were only very few voters as at 9. 30 am, even when INEC materials and official had already arrived, seated and ready to begin the voting process.
One of the Party agents at the Abakaliki township stadium, voting venue for the Internally displaced persons from Ohaukwu LGA who pleaded anonymity, indicated that the seemingly dashed hopes and aspirations of electorates during the Presidential election was responsible for the low turn-out.
Others interviewed adduced reasons of uncertain security situation.
Ogeh hyacinth, one of the electorates explained: “There has been tensions and apprehension before now, following actions and utterances of some politicians in the State.
“So, many voters are watching from their homes to ascertain whether it is safe to come out.
“But I believe the number of electorates will steadily improve with time.”
