Nigeria’s senior women basketball team, D’Tigress, on Sunday defeated the defending champions, Senegal, by 65-48 points to win their third ever Afrobasket title at the Palais des Sports Salamatou Maïga in Bamako, Mali.
The Nigerian girls lost the first quarter by 18-12 points but managed to close the gap in the second quarter by 10-21 points.
On resumption for the second half of the tie, both teams shared the third and fourth quarter by 7-15, 13-17 points.
The D’Tigress confirmed their supremacy for second time against the Senegalese after defeated in the group stage by 58-54points.
The last time Nigeria won the tournament was in 2005 in Abuja when Nigeria hosted the 17th edition of the tournament between December 20t and 28.
Earlier in the day, the hosts, Mali, defeated Mozambique by 75-52 points in the third place match.
