The National Youths Council of Nigeria, Niger East Senatorial District chapter in Niger State has unanimously endorsed the candidature of the state Governor, Dr. Babangida Aliyu, for the senatorial seat in the forthcoming general election in 2015.
This was one of the resolutions of the Youths Zonal Council meeting held in Minna over the weekend, with all the the youth leaders drawn from the nine local government areas of the zone in attendance.
The local governments are Chanchaga, Shiroro, Munya, Bosso, Rafi, Paikoro, Suleja, Tafa and Gawu Babangida.
The endorsement of the governor by youths from the zone is coming barely a few months after the Peoples Democratic Party elders from the zone came calling on the governor to be prepared to serve the people of his zone after his tenure as governor come 2015.
The elders, who made the call when they paid a thank you visit to the governor for his contributions to the development of the area, urged him to consider himself fit to represent them at the Senate in the next dispensation.
The delegation, which was led by the immediate Commissioner for Land and Housing, Alhaji Nuhu Musa, assured the governor of the total support of the people from zone, stressing that their support for the governor was as a result of the his numerous achievements not only at the state level but his love for community transformation.
The National Youths Council of Nigeria Conal Chairman, Comrade, Sani Adamu, while addressing journalist after the meeting, said that the endorsement of the governor was arrived at after a careful x-ray of his achievements in the last six years as governor of the state.
Adamu pointed out that though the governor has not indicated his interest in any elective position after his tenure in 2015, the youths promised to start mobilising people at the grass-root from the zone for their support for his candidature in 2015 as a senator.
The youths said the governor has demonstrated his love for the people by embarking on some developmental projects in the area, including construction of roads, schools and recently the award of contract for the construction of a bridge across River Shiroro, which has been unattended to by successive administrations in the state over the years.
He disclosed that their endorsement of the governor has received the blessing of the state Chairman of the NYCN, Comrade Hamisu Jankaro, who urged them to stay clear of any violence in 2015 while expressing their political opinion.
