The General Superintendent of the Deeper Life Christian Ministry, Pastor Williams Kumuyi, has warned Nigerians against voting along ethnic and religious lines in 2015.
Kumuyi, who said the measure remains the best way to elect credible leaders for Nigeria to heave a sigh of relief, advised his church members to collect their Permanent Voter Cards for them to participate actively in electing leaders that would shape their collective destiny.
The Cleric made the statement in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday at a press conference to declare open a three-day revival in Ekiti State in an event organised by Pastor Debo Mark Taiwo.
The man of God warned: “Nigerians must be careful in electing their leaders in 2015.
“We must not vote based on ethnic or religious sentiment.
“People should vote based on the credentials of the leaders.
“We have to look at the records of those that are contesting for us to elect credible leaders that will bring development.
“It won’t be wise for people to start voting for somebody because he is from your area or is a member of your church.
“This is the more reason why people should speak through the ballot by participating actively in the electoral system.”
Kumuyi urged politicians to embrace peace by being gallant in defeat, saying this remains the best way to ensure peace and stability in the system.
On the imperativeness of Nigerian citizens to be in possession of their PVCs, Kumuyi said: “All members of Deeper Life must get their PVCs.
“It is good for citizens to participate in electoral system so that when your leaders are not doing well, you will have the right to complain.”
The cleric urged churches to continue to involve in social welfare by way of empowering the poor in the society.
Kumuyi said the step would help in teaching the citizens how to be their brothers’ keepers in a developing nation like Nigeria, where poverty is high and deeply entrenched.
