Worried over the unhealthy activities of political parties with regards to road use during campaigns, the Federal Road Safety Corps has advised for the conduct of campaigns with utmost decorum and safety consciousness.
The Niger Sector Command in a statement signed by its Head of Public Education, Simeon K. Bitrus, observed that some political campaigns are carried out contrary to traffic rules and regulations governing public roads.
According to Bitrus: “This conduct negates the Corps effort in creating safe motoring environment for all Road Users in the state.
“Some Political Parties disregards offences such as Overloading, Reckless and Dangerous Driving, Overpeeding, Wrongful Parking, Under Age Driving, Dangerous Overtaking, Driving against Traffic and Defacing of Road Signs with Posters.”
Consequently, Bitrus said the Command has alerted all political parties to conduct their campaigns with utmost decorum and be safety conscious, since it is only the living and healthy that cast votes or be voted for during elections.
“The Command is reassuring the general public especially Nigerlites of the zeal by the officers and Men of the Corps to stop the avoidable loss of lives and Property on the Highways through aggressive enlightenment Campaign and effective Patrol activities in the State,” he added.
