The people of Plateau State have viewed with dismay the perceived game plan by the state Governor, Jonah David Jang, to impose Senator G.N.S. Pwajok as his successor in 2015.
Pwajok, from Du village, is said to have completed moves to swap his seat in the Senate with Jang for the governorship.
Pwajok currently represents Plateau Northern Senatorial District in the National Assembly.
He is said to have been chosen by Governor Jang against the wishes of the people in the state.
However, Senator Venmark Dangin; Second Republic Governor of Plateau State, Fidelis Tapgun; former Governor and now Senator, Joshua Dariye; and one time gubernatorial aspirant, Pauline Tallen, and a host of others have condemned the move.
Engineer Jimmy Chetto, who is also jostling for the governorship in the state, said: “We will resist any Berom man from taking over from another Berom man.
“Are they the only tribe on the plateau?
“They are only trying to bring division in the state.”
Chetto said at a recent meeting, elders, who cut across all the political parties in the state, expressed disgust at the development.
They warned the ruling Peoples Democratic Party to desist “from the dangers of such imposition tendencies of the state Governor, Jonah David Jang, and his action”.
Also, elders from the Jang’s village urged the people of the state to reject any move by the governor in deciding who becomes the next governor in 2015.
Dangin stated this in a press statement: “Du people are never in support of such a political arrangement after their son rules the state for eight years without a state of emergency as witnessed during the time of Joshua Dariye.”
