The Deputy National Secretary of All Progressives Congress, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has advised the party’s aspirants not to embark on campaign now, but rather turn their energy to building the party for a solid foundation for the 2015 general election.
Speaking in Minna, the Niger State capital, at the secretariat of the party, the former FCT Minister said that the party cannot afford to make the mistake made by the defunct Congress for Progressives Change during the last general election.
Instead of embarking on campaigns now, El-Rufai counselled aspirants and party members to go back to their wards and build the party and ensure a solid foundation for the party and a viable platform for party flag bearers.
He said: “I want to advice that all our aspirants campaigning now and indeed all members should go to their villages and wards to build the party.
“We should avoid the mistake made by CPC during the last election.
“We cannot afford to become a party of contestants without foundation.”
El-Rufai said with a solid foundation in all the 774 local government areas of the country, its candidates will have a solid platform in 2015.
El-Rufai said the country cannot afford another four years of misrule of the Peoples Democratic Party, hence he urged all APC members to join hands and work in unity to deliver the country from the incompetence of the ruling party.
The APC national leader frowned at the growing level of corruption and promotion of religious and tribal sentiments by the ruling party in the country.
The North Central National Vice Chairman of the party, retired General Ahmed Aboki, while commissioning the new secretariat, said with the coming together of all progressives in the zone, the party was set to take over all the six states in the region along with the Federal Capital Territory.
Aboki said: “With the spread and the growing acceptance of our party, I make bold to say that come 2015, North Central will cease to be a zone for the PDP but that of the All Progressives Congress.”
Earlier the Interim State Chairman of the party, Alhaji Bako Shetima, said the fortunes of the party at the national level has started to rub on the state as a growing number of PDP followers in the state are making inquiries on defecting to the party.
Party officials from states within the zone were at the rally, which further entrenched the party in the state.
