No fewer than 20 people were seriously injured and several vehicles vandalised in a renewed clash between street urchins known as Area boys in Ali-Iwo area and counterparts from Oriyanrin, all in Ijora-Badia, Lagos State at the weekend over money gift from a Fuji musician.
According to eyewitnesses, bandits used the bloody crisis to rob residents, traders and passersby of their personal belongings.
People injured by the gang members were rushed to nearby hospitals.
The residents said that the gangsters attended the stage performance of one Remi Aluko Fuji band at Bobland Hotel, Ijora and soon embarked on a free for all fight when one faction collected money from the musician and refused to share with the other.
An eyewitness, who refused to mention his name, said: “The gang members freely used dangerous weapons like guns, cutlasses, broken bottles and knives to attack one another.”
A police source said: “Over 20 people sustained injuries during the bloody clash and many were robbed and several vehicles were vandalised at Obale Street and other adjacent Streets by the boys. Police later came to disperse them with teargas.”
Some of the vandalised vehicles registration numbers are XV607AGL, AGL816XE and CH260LSD.
A resident said that Ali-Iwo boys always assemble at the edge of Obale Bridge, smoking Indian hemp and used to attack passersby.
One of the owners on the vandalised vehicles, who had reported the incident at the Divisional Police Station, Badia, called on the police authority and the State Government to apprehend the culprits, adding: “We are appealing to the Commissioner of Police and Governor Babatunde Fashola to assist in getting rid of these miscreants.”
