An 18-year-old girl, Rosemary Okon Bassey, who took ill in the house of her boyfriend, Jamiu Odekunle, 29, New Haven Avenue, Makogi, Ibafo in Ogun State, has died in the hospital where she was rushed to by her lover.
According to the boyfriend who reported the development to the police, his girlfriend was diagnosed with a hole in the heart.
Odekunle was said to have reported the incident to the Divisional Police Officer of Ibafo.
According to available information, Bassey’s condition was described by the doctor as an internal ailment.
On January 11, 2025, around 10:40am, Odekunle visited the station to report an incident.
He stated that on December 26, 2024, his 18-year-old girlfriend fell ill, prompting him to take her to the Royal Crest Hospital in Makogi, where she was diagnosed with a hole in the heart defect and referred to Sagamu Teaching Hospital for treatment.
Je further recounted that on January 11, 2025, at about 5am, Bassey passed away.
Upon receiving this report, the Divisional Police Officer visited the location and confirmed that there were no signs of violence on the deceased’s body.

The body has been evacuated to the Sagamu Teaching Hospital mortuary for an autopsy, and ongoing investigations will continue.
The spokesperson of the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident.
Odutola, a Chief Superintendent of Police, said further updates will be provided.
