The Oyo State Government has expressed its sympathy with the parents and guardians of the 16 school children who were involved in a road crash in Ibadan, the state capital, on Wednesday, promising to pick their medical bills.
The driver of the commercial bus conveying the children was said to have lost control and rammed into a container by the road side.
The incident, which reportedly occurred at about 8am. at Aiyegun Road in Oluyole Local Government Area of the state, claimed the life of the conductor while the driver and some of the children sustained varying degrees of injuries.
The driver and the school children are currently receiving treatment at the University College Hospital and St. Mary’s Catholic Hospital, both in Ibadan.
The Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Mrs. Monsurat Sunmonu, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, and the Chairman of Hospitals Management Board, Alhaji Olaide Abass, who visited the hospitals to convey government’s sympathy to the affected children and their parents, described the incident as unfortunate.
While expressing gratitude to God that the lives of the innocent children were not lost to the crash, they pledged government’s readiness to foot the medical bill.
