A former Governor of Ogun State, Aremo Olusegun Osoba, and Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goal, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, are among the eminent Nigerians to be conferred with awards at the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, Ogun State upcoming 15th combined convocation ceremonies.
The Rector of MAPOLY, Dr. Babatunde Adekoyejo Jolaoso, made this known at a press conference to unveil the activities lined up for the combined convocation.
According to Jolaoso, over 51,000 graduates from across nine academic sessions, spanning 2015/2016 to 2023/2024 would be conferred with National Diplomas (ND) and Higher National Diplomas (HND) during the convocation ceremonies scheduled to hold on June 24, 2025.
The Rector explained that Aremo Osoba will be conferred with the MAPOLY Honorary Fellowship Award for his exceptional contributions to education, industry, and national development, alongside Princess Orelope-Adefulire and High Chief Tosin Owolabi Fadare.
Dr. Jolaoso also disclosed that an Award of Excellence will be bestowed on the Chairman of Adron Homes and Properties Limited, Aare Adetola Emmanuel-King, and National President of the Amalgamated Commercial Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria (ACCOMORAN), Prince Shamsudeen Apelogun.
He pointed out that prizes will be awarded to exceptional graduates across the faculties and departments, noting that the convocation – the first since his appointment as rector – is a testament to the resilience of the foremost polytechnic.
The Rector affirmed: “With over 51,000 graduates, this convocation is a testament to the resilience of MAPOLY, and we are determined to chart a new course of growth and excellence.
“This will be the first convocation since the 2014/2015 session, and it reflects a renewed spirit of progress and institutional rebirth at Moshood Abiola Polytechnic.”
Jolaoso further described the combined convocation as a symbolic new beginning for the polytechnic, which was established in 1979, adding that since he assumed office about six months ago, his administration has embarked on rebranding and repositioning of the institution through improved academic calendars, infrastructural renewal, and building of staff-student confidence.
The Rector disclosed that the convocation lecture, titled: “Diaspora Perspective and the Influence of STEM in the Globalised World of Today,” will be delivered by the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa.
He said the lecture, which will take place the same day at Otunba Gbenga Daniel Hall within the campus, aligned with the polytechnic’s renewed focus on innovation and global relevance.
He assured that his administration would remain committed to restoring the polytechnic’s lost glory and reposition it as a centre of academic excellence, just as he highlighted ongoing reforms.
The reforms, he stated, include: infrastructure upgrade, engagement with alumni and industries, academic calendar stabilisation, and rebranding of the institution’s image in line with global best practices.

Jolaoso thanked the state Governor, Dapo Abiodun, for his immense support to MAPOLY, as well as the support of the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, and the Polytechnic’s Governing Council.
The Eagle Online reports that MAPOLY, formerly Ogun State Polytechnic, Abeokuta, was established in January 1979.
Academic activities began at its initial temporary sites at Oke-Egunya and Onikolobo, both in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
The Institution formally moved to its permanent site at Ojere in 1985.
Following the death of Chief MKO Abiola, the polytechnic’s greatest benefactor, in 1998, the institution was renamed Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta in honour of his contribution to the institution.
