No fewer than 13 academic programmes in Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu have received full accreditation ahead of the 2021/2022 academic session, the vice chancellor, Professor Christian Anieke, has said.

Anieke disclosed this on Friday in Enugu while briefing newsmen on the outcome of a recent visit by a team of inspectors from the National Universities Commission (NUC).

Godfrey Okoye University is a relatively young institution of higher learning owned and managed by the Catholic Diocese of Enugu.

The programmes that received full accreditation are Banking and Finance, Management, Marketing, Public Administration, Education Economics and Education English and Literature Studies.

The rest are Education, Political Science, Law, Biochemistry, Computer Science, Economics, Psychology and Sociology.

The vice chancellor, who is also a priest of the Catholic Church, said that the success of the accreditation was a reward for hard-work, unity and tenacity of the academic community.

He said that as a matter of policy, the full accreditation was valid for five years after which a reassessment of the programmes would be made.

He said that it was gratifying that the programme of Law which faced accreditation for the first time performed well.

“The programme of Law faced accreditation for the first time and we did all we could to ensure that it succeeded.

“Today, all the 13 programmes presented to the NUC have been fully accredited,” he said.

He said that after the inspection by the team from NUC, the Law Faculty scored 93.9 per cent, Economics scored 94.4 per cent while Sociology scored 95 per cent.

“Having these high scores makes the difference and I want to congratulate all the heads of departments and deans for this tremendous success.

According to Anieke, the accreditation of the programmes would not have been possible without the requisite infrastructure and a conducive learning environment.

“This is a university to watch out for due to the quality of the scholars in it,” he said.

Anieke disclosed that the university had released the results of its 2021 degree examinations with 12 students making first class honours.

“Making a first class here is something else because after the normal class activities, we subject our students to intelligence test.

“When you make first class here, it means you can fly anywhere in the world,” Anieke said.
