The Nigeria Football Federation has confirmed that seven players of the present squad of the Golden Eaglets team preparing for the October 2013 U-17 World Cup slated for Dubai, the United Arab Emirates have failed the dreaded Magnetic Resonance Imaging test.
The Head of the Nigeria Football Federation Technical Department, Dr. Emmanuel Ikpeme, disclosed this to sports writers in Abuja and also noted that 11 out of the 30 players in camp failed the test, which was conducted at the National Hospital, Abuja as against the eight that was reported.
Ikpeme disclosed that the result of the test has been duly passed over to FIFA and CAF, while the coaching crew of the team, led by Coach Garba Manu, has also been informed.
But in a swift reaction to the incident, a prominent member of the team told The Eagle Online that they are confident of a good outing in Dubai despite this saga.
The source said: “I think we are used to this kind of situation and we are always prepared to address it.
“Just before the African Championship in Morroco, we had similar problem where more than half of the team were thrown out due to MRI test.
“But we bounced back to play in the final of the event.
“So I am not afraid that the team won’t perform well in the World Cup.
“In fact, we are going to shock the world.”
