Wellspring University, Benin, Friday conferred Bachelor’s and Higher Degrees on 205 students with 11 graduating with First Class Honours at its third combined convocation ceremony in Benin.
A total of 41 students graduated with Second Class Upper Division and 70, Second Class Lower Division as 12 finished with Third Class.
A total of 71 students bagged postgraduate degrees in various disciplines while honourary degrees were conferred on wife of Edo Governor, Betsey Obaseki and Rosemary Osula-Atu, Founder/President of Rosula Foundation.
In an address, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Isaac Ajayi, said the institution had continued to be driven by the vision of its founding fathers, including moulding a generation of new Nigerians imbued with global development.
Ajayi, who noted that the university had expanded in both physical facilities and number of academic staff, said all the academic programmes run by the institution were accredited by relevant regulatory authorities.
The Vice-cChancellor disclosed that an arrangement had been concluded for the university to start five new courses from the next academic session.
“In implementing the renewed policy of driving education with innovation and creativity, the curricula of all courses in the university have been reviewed with the infusion of innovation-driven courses relevant to industries and IT.
“This is with special emphasis on practical exposure of the students through laboratory experiments, internship and field trips,” he said.
He charged the graduated students to continually engage in learning, bearing in mind that in the digital and knowledge dispensation, changes took place in a matter of seconds.
Earlier, the university inaugurated its newly 500 sitting capacity library named after the late Mrs Emily Imoukuede.
The vice-chancellor appealed for donation of books towards restocking the library, which was razed in May 2021.
In his convocation lecturer, Wale Adeniran of Flour Mills of Nigeria called on Nigerian universities to incorporate financial literacy in their curricula to expose them to different opportunities after graduation.
Adeniran urged the graduates to have a dream that would challenge unemployment in the country.
The convocation lecturer advised them to be passionate, innovative and seek partnership with others to serve as economic and political missionaries that would salvage the country.
