Nimi Walson-Jack, the Chairman of the Sub-Committee on Publicity, Local Organising Committee of the Nigeria Bar Association, said on Monday that 10,000 lawyers would participate at its Annual General Meeting.
Wilson-Jack, former General Secretary of the NBA, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Port Harcourt, Rivers State that arrangements had been concluded for the conference.
It is scheduled for Rivers State from August19 to 26.
Wilson-Jack said the Civic Centre, venue of the conference, had been renovated by the state government, while breakout sessions would be held at the state House of Assembly auditorium and High Court buildings.
The chairman said arrangements had been concluded to convey participants to various venues during the conference.
He said: “There are many highlights of this conference.
“For the first time, lawyers will vote electronically and the new President of the NBA will be inaugurated at this conference.
“The new NBA Port Harcourt Secretariat will be inaugurated.
“Also, Chief Lulu Briggs Foundation will launch an endowment fund for the law school.
“The same foundation has given more than 340 law school students scholarship in the past.”
Wilson-Jack said the conference is expected to boost the economy of the state to the tune of N1 billion as the delegates are expected to pay for hotel accommodation and shop in the markets.
“We, therefore, urge residents to welcome the visitors and give them good hospitality,” he said.
