The campaign train of Michael Opeyemi Bamidele of Labour Party has been grounded by political thugs suspected to be those of the All Progressives Congress in Ilupeju Ekiti, Oye Local Government Area of Ekiti State.
The attack took place at about 3.45pm when Bamidele’s campaign motorcade entered into Ilupeju township from Ire Ekiti axis of the town.
At the time of filling this report, members of Bamidele’s campaign team and his followers are being shielded at the palace of the Apeju of Ilupeju-Ekiti, HRH Emmanuel Oniyelu, for safety.
The monarch and security agents in the community were providing security for everyone at the rally.
The crisis occurred when thugs shouting anti-MOB’s slogans, numbering about 20, appeared with dangerous weapons like locally made guns, cutlasses and sticks.
They unleashed terror on LP members in the convoy.
Machetes were freely used, a situation that threw the town into pandemonium.
Tope Adeyemo, a young man and member of Labour Party from Igogo-Ekiti, Moba Local Government Area of the state, who was wearing a branded MOB’s vest, was unlucky as he was shot by the thugs.
The victim, it was later confirmed, was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Ido Ekiti for urgent medical attention, having fainted immediately owing to loss of blood.

Reports said Arije, a male, was hired along with other youths from the area to disrupt the rally by one Ganiyu Owolabi, a staunch APC member and current Secretary to the State Government in the Governor Kayode Fayemi Administration.
He was apprehended by men of the SSS who were at the rally.
