The National Assembly Elections Petitions Tribunal sitting in Ilorin, Kwara State has upheld the election of the President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki.
The Tribunal announced its decision on Tuesday morning.
Saraki’s election as the representative of Kwara Central Senatorial District on the platform of the All Progressives Congress was challenged at the Tribunal by the Peoples Democratic Party.
Reacting to the development, the APC in Kwara State hailed the judgement of the Tribunal.
In a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Sulyman Buhari, the party said the judgement is an affirmation of the mandate freely entrusted with the Senate president by the good people of Kwara Central Senatorial District.
The statement said: “Kwara APC received with delight the judgement of the Election petition tribunal sitting in Ilorin which upheld the electoral victory of the Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki.
“This significant judgement is an affirmation of the mandate freely entrusted with the Senate President by the good people of Kwara Central senatorial district.
“Meanwhile, It should also be noted that the court judgement is consistent with the wishes of the good people of Kwara State.”
