The conglomeration of the transport unions, okada riders, market men and women and students in Ekiti State have vowed to curtail any move that would lead to the breach of public peace in the state by the All Progressives Congress lawmakers in the state House of Assembly
In a statement signed in Ado Ekiti on Saturday by members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, the Association of Market Women in Nigeria and the Federation of Ekiti State Students warned the APC lawmakers to realise the consequence of waging war against their state.
The former Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Hon. Adewale Omirin, had in an interview a Lagos State-based television station on Thursday disclosed the plan of his colleagues to resume at the Assembly on Monday at all cost
In the statement jointly signed by Chief Adekola Clement, Comrade Dahunsi Olaniyi, Awoniyi Tolulope Ayodele and Chief Olabisi Okummolade, the noted the gesture displayed by the state Governor, Ayo Fayose, by stretching his hands of friendship to the lawmakers, which, according to them, was rebuffed by the lawmakers.
The statement said: “Rather than reciprocating the gesture, they have occupied themselves by holding secret meetings, mapping out strategies on how they would destabilize the state and making it ungovernable for the governor.
“To make the matter worse, they are currently outside the state, precisely in far away Lagos, hobnobbing and romancing with those opposing the progress of the state.
“It has come to our knowledge that the APC lawmakers intend to come to state as from Monday to cause a breach of peace, commotion and violence which by the grace of God we intend to curtail.
“They should jettison personal interest and know that the interest of the people of the state is greater than their own selfish interest.”
The group recalled how majority of the people in the state had on June 21, 2014 voted massively for change by voting in Fayose as their governor in all the 16 local government areas of the state.
The statement added: “We did this by voting out the anti-people of APC government led by Dr. Kayode Fayemi, who had unfortunately made life difficult for the generality of the people of our state.”
They commended the maturity of Fayose and promised to support his administration.
While congratulating the new Speaker, Hon. Dele Olugbemi, on his emergence, the group urged him to work with all the lawmakers in the Assembly as a one team, irrespective of political affiliation.
