Three men were on Tuesday brought before an Ogudu Magistrate Court in Lagos State for assaulting staff of Ikeja Electric while performing their official duties.
The accused persons are: Godfrey Endurance, 22; Ihonre Samson, 32; and Ayodeji Adeoye, 30.
They are reside at Onakoya Street, Mende, Maryland, Lagos.
Godfrey is a security man, Ihonre is a public servant, while Ayodeji is a civil servant.
The Prosecutor, Sergeant Ihiehie Lucky, told the court that the accused persons committed the offence on March 13 at 1-5, Otunba Onakoya Street, Mende, Maryland in Lagos State.
Lucky said on that fateful day at about 4pm, Fapehi Gabriel, a staff of Ikeja Electric, came to the Anthony Police Station to report he was assaulted alongside some other staff of the company.
He said “Early on the same day, the complainant and some of his colleagues went to the above mentioned address on official duty to disconnect light in the house of those having outstanding bills with the company.
“They set up their ladder on one of the poles and proceeded when Godfrey, a security man in the compound, dragged down the ladder with Mr. Fapehi on it.
“Ayodeji held the complainant by the neck questioning the authenticity of their assignment.
“Ihonre came and held the Ikeja Electric officials hostage until they reconnected the light before they were allowed to leave.”
The prosecutor said the offences were contrary to Sections 409, 166 (b) and 172 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2011.
The Magistrate, O. S. Amusat, granted the accused persons bail subject to the verification of their sureties’ addresses.
IE’s Head of Corporate Communications, Felix Ofulue, further confirmed that the accused persons were remanded in Ikoyi Prisons pending perfection of their bail conditions.
The matter was later adjourned to April 24 for mention.
