Three staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Benue State died in the course of conducting the presidential and National Assembly elections on Saturday.
This was just as information emerged that the INEC office in Ugba town of Logo Local Government Area of Benue State was razed when gunmen, believed to be thugs working for one of the major political parties, stormed the office.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ezeani Ameachi, confirmed the incident.
The INEC Resident Commissioner in the state, Prof. Istfanus Dafwang, confirmed the death of the three INEC staff.
They were said to be ad-hoc staff.
Amongst those who died was a female ad-hoc staff who died on Saturday morning in a motorbike accident at Oju Local Government Area.
She was said to be on her was to the polling unit assigned to her.
Dafwang said: “She was being taken by a motorcycle rider to her unit and he was probably over-speeding when the front of the bike apparently pulled off leading to the ghastly accident that claimed her life.
“The other two died Sunday morning in an accident on their way back to Makurdi from Vandeikya where they took part in the conduct of the elections.”
